Statement :
Jewellery making has taken a dominant role in my life in the last 20 years. As a young man, I did an apprenticeship with Kobi Bossard while he lived in Akaroa. At that time Patricia Bosshard opened a gallery in Akaroa which gave me first hand contact with The modern art movement in Canterbury in the early seventies.
Now I work mainly in Sterling Silver using metal punches struck with a hammer to texture and line the surface. This is called chasing, an ancient technique, widely practised in countries like India and Mexico. It has led me to making mainly brooches with a predominantly graphic style. It has given me the opportunity to express my ideas through jewellery.
